red spot on penis

Hi, I am a 28 year old male.  About 2 months ago I noticed a dime sized spot of red skin on the shaft of my penis.  I assumed it was from friction from masterbation and ignored it, applying hand lotion after it dried and the skin became flakey.  It hasn't gone away, or gotten worse over 2 months and now I am worried.  Occasionaly it becomes dry and irritated and starts to flake.  Any idea what this is and should I get it checked out?  It is possible that it is an STD, but I am not High Risk and was last checked 4 months ago.  I have included a link with several photos.  I also have a small pencil point red spot on the end of my shaft (see image #5) that appeared about 2 weeks ago and now the combination of the two is worring me.

I am only 16 and I read your problem and I am having the same one, I noticed a red bump about 2 months ago and when wouldn't go away, I took a knife & tried cutting it off, it faded bit about 2 weeks ago it came back, I have put every kind of cream and oilments on it ,to see if it would clear up, but nope! I show it to my mom and she said that it look like the first stage of a mole. it itsn't sore and have any drainage at all, it's just there! On the bottom side of my penis.I thought it may be a STD but I don't have any of the signs or symptoms. Please help. It's driving me CRAZY!

I am qwerty1.  I forgot my registration stuff so I signed up again.

I tried leaving it alone like Dr Rockoff suggested.  By the end of one week the sore had swollen up and became more painful.  I returned to the Taro: Clotrimazole and Betamethasone Dipropionate Cream and the swelling went down overnight.  Pretty astounding.

Later I saw a Dermatologist who did a skin scrape test and concluded I has no fungal infection; or perhaps the fungus was dead when he scraped.

In any event, he gave me a script for Fluticasone Propionate 0.005%.  I'm 1.5 weeks into it.  Initially, I thought this was the thing since the sore is clearly better, but the pain persists.  The "wrinkled skin" effect of the sore has dissappeared but it's still red.

Additionally, my sore looks identical to krause3d. Even the small red sore on the side.  Mine main sore, however, never flakes.  It just stays wrinkled and split down the middle.  As I stated, with the FP cream the sore seems to be healing.(?)

I think the red sore on the side is a blood blister. I've had several.  Additionally, I think the veins are irritated since they are more pronounced and red, occassionally, and particularly when the pain is bad.  

I've recently noticed my pain is worst during the week when I'm wearing formal cloths and sit a lot.  Weekends the pain diminishes. Perhaps sitting so long, tight pants, dry-cleaning chemicals.  I'm really grasping here.

I'd love to hear you specify your symptoms.  I'll keep in touch.

i found this post in an archive, however i suffer the exact same, when i read it i asked my wife, did i write this one night? cause everything is the same  if anyone has any idea what this is please respond i must know.

(25-Apr-04) . I've got a question about a red spot on my penis shaft.

I noticed it several months ago, but just ignored it. There was no pain. I figured it was a friction irritation and would go away. Weeks later I developed epididymitis symptoms (I had a case of this ~7 years ago) as well as general penis/bladder pain.

I went to a "Med-Check" and the doctor did a urine test. It came up negative. She commented she'd be willing to test me for herpes but I told her since I've not been sexually active for several years this seemed unnecessary. In any event, she gave me some Cipro and sent me on my way.

A little over a week later, the symptoms persisted, and I visted my GP. He repeated the urine test. Negative, but he did find blood in my urine. This has been an ongoing issue and my doctor isn't really concerned about it. He diagnosed the sore as a yeast infection and suggested Clotrimazole 1%. I tried Lotrimin for about a month but the symptoms persisted.

I went to a Urologist and he did a urine test. Negative. He also had me get two CAT scans and an Ultrasound. In the end, he found cysts in my kidneys but said these were normal and I should just monitor them. He found no reason for my penis/bladder pain and he also thought the sore was simply a yeast infection. He gave me a script for Taro: Clotrimazole and Betamethasone Dipropionate Cream. I've been using this during the entire drama.

I also tried 1% hydrocortisone and even Monistat. The sore just won't go away and the penis/bladder pain persists.

So here I am.

The sore is about the size of a dime and on the upper side of the penis at the point where the penis-skin changes to body-skin. Sometimes it's nearly the same color as the surrounding skin (clear?), sometimes it's bright red (often after a shower), sometimes it has a single shallow crack running across it's width and wrinkled skin on either side of it. The wrinkles run at right angles to the crack and terminate at the circumference of the sore. It never bleeds, blisters, drains, or scabs.

Twice I've gotten it to nearly go away. Once with gobs of hydrocortisone and Lotrimin, and once after using baby powder 24/7 to keep it totally dry. Each time it was gone for about a week but eventually returned. It seems to start 'under' the skin and slowly 'infects' the top layer.

I've searched all the sites for picts but found no match.

Other symptoms: blisters on my feet that appear occasionally and look like a group of little blisters piled on top of one another. These eventually go away and never hurt of bleed. The skin over them does darken as they heal. The bear no resemblance to the single sore on my penis. I used to get these whenever I flew overseas and I assume they are friction blisters from constant airplane motion. Also, I've noticed a increase in acne (odd, given my age, 40), and my forehead sometimes gets many little red spots particularly after a hot shower.

Guidance GREATLY appreciated.

(25-Apr-04) qwerty1 I think you should ignore it. The fact that it almost goes away and other times is red probably just means that you had irritation which has been overtreated and is best left alone so the redness can take care of itself, which it will over a period of months if you let it. To see whether I'm right, I advise you to leave the spot entirely alone and show it to a skin doctor in 4-6 weeks (if there's anything left to show.)

I can't think of any association between the skin spot and penis and bladder pain, other than anxiety.

I have the same thing going on also.  I looked at your pictures and noticed about the same exact thing going on to me.  Mine also flakes after awhile to.

I'm not sure.  It does not look like an STD, but it also doesn't look like ordinary irritation.  If I saw you in my office, I would perform a skin culture and prescribe a medium-strength topical steroid cream as a trial for 2 weeks.  I suggest you set up an appointment with a skin  doctor, who will most likely do the same.  Chances are, the spot will go away completely and leave no residual mark.
