red spots, rash, penis

by lafeyette, Dec 11, 2002 12:00AM
A few months ago I noticed a red spot on the head of my penis (3-4mm diameter, flat).  I have been having unprotected sex the past few months and am in a monogamous relationship.  That red spot occurred sometime in that period.  Also, after sex, I notice that my foreskin will often become red and irritated.  My primary care physician told me not to lose any sleep over it and that it was likely a candida infection.  So he prescriped me some anti-fungal cream which I have applied for a few weeks now.  In that time the spot seems to have faded as well as the irritation on the foreskin.  But at the same time, other spots appear (on head of penis, much smaller, flat) and seem to be more bright after sex.  Last week, I noticed two red spots (2-4mm in diameter) on the shaft of my penis...the foreskin to be exact, on the outside.  Now, I'm an anxious person to begin with, and of course all types of alarms are going off in my head.  These spots are flat, and red.  I snagged some glacial acetic acid from work, and mixed it so as to make a 5% dilution in sterile water, and applied it to one of the spots...which I fear only aggravated it, now I have a burning sensation since then, and the spot has become slightly bigger.  It didn't exactly show up white after the application either, just burned.  The other spot seems to be fading, I think.  If i don't apply the antifungal cream or hydrocortizone, the spots appear to become very dry with a red/whitish (i think its flaked skin, hard to tell) color.  Its strange because I didn't notice these symptoms after having sex with other partners in my life (I'm 22 and have had two partners prior, one of which I also had unprotected sex with..she also had abnormal paps, but said it wasn't due to HPV, but she did need some minor surgery or something to remove a cyst somewhere in there).  I'm very nervous, could this be HPV?  The fungal cream isn't working as effectively as I thought it would.  And all the girls I've been with seem clean, albeit the one who had the abnormal paps (although she claims that HPV isn't the cause).  So the spots on the head of the penis have been with me, although they are much faded now, for about 1.5 months...the spots on the shaft have been with me for about 1 week.  What do you think?  Also, on a separate note, I have had eczema on my leg my whole life, as long as I can remember...have you ever heard of people having such a case...it's never fully gone away...i read somewhere that candida inside the body may be the underlying cause of dermatologic symptoms and that probiotics may be able to reduce inflammation on the skin...what do you think?
alright, thanks for your time

It soulds like you have eczema or irritation of the penis.  Try using 1% hydrocortisone and I bet you'll find the red spots ging away a lot faster, though they're likely to recur once in a while, especially after friction.  Your rash doesn't sound anything like HPV.

"Internal candida" represents a whole different belief system bout disease, and has nothing to do with the medical diagnosis of candida, which in any case you don't have.

Please don't put glacial acetic acid on your penis.  Thanks.

Best.
