It may involve a fungal or bacterial infection .In some cases, it may also be a dermatitis. What you have now may still be a fungal infection. Fungal or yeast infections are chronic that is they may be present for quite sometime. They are also recurrent, that is , given the proper triggers they may recur.
You may have this assessed by your doctor. The flakes or scales may be evaluated microscopically to ascertain the presence of a yeast or fungal infection.
