reg ironing the hair

by shan1975, Nov 04, 2008 11:45PM
I am 30 year old female having PCOD. i have been diagnosed to have male pattern baldness. the hair loss started about a year ago, following a single episode of ironing my hair. The hair loss has reduced substantially and i've not got any hair colouring or straightening done since. Now, i want to get my hair ironed just once for a special occasion. Is it ok for me to go ahead with it or will this result in further hair loss.

Thank you

If the iron is not to hot (in which case it should have shown damage on the hair itself) it should be no different than a curling iron. I'm sure you didn't iron your scalp so I don't see why it should have caused hair loss. In my teenage years (longer ago than I want to think of) it was something the teens did all the time. Never heard of a problem. It could have been coincidence. You have been diagnosed with male pattern baldness. Pulling on your hair will not be good, but if you aren't then I don't see where it would make a difference. My sister had very thining hair, and mine thinned really bad. I was diagnosed with male patterned baldness. We have many in our family (men) that are bald partially. Now my sister's hair has thickened back up. A pharmacist told her to use a shampoo and conditioner and it worked. Doo Gro Mega Thick Anti-Thinning Shampoo and the same name conditioner. I think she said she used it about a month and saw new growth. It is thick now. You might want to try it. I started using it a couple weeks ago. She probably washes her hair every 2 days. You find it in the African American shampoos. Leaves your hair nice too. Also, your thyroid can cause hair loss if it is not functioning properly (harmone production) and if female harmones are not producing right it will do the same thing. Did they check your blood for harmone balance? Do you ever have a problem when you swallow that feels like you swallow a big ball of air and it hurts? That is a sign of thyroid problems. Your GYN can do your blood check.
If you really think the ironing made it worse, I wouldn't do it, but mine started when I colored my hair one time, which I had been doing it for years and never had a problem. I think mine was coincidence, I do have a thyroid problem, but I also have male patterned baldness. I have it colored now and it doesn't cause it to fall out, but it is still thin. I just started the shampoo so it hasn't had a chance to work.
