scalp

Help!!!  I have been dealing with a bizarre scalp issue.  I was first diagnosed with seborria dermatitis (sp.) in December.  I have very thick hair.  I was prescribed a shampoo "capex" that was a cortisone.  After 6 months I developed what I believe is foliculitis....I think I was misdiagnosed all along.  I see dirt, greenish hair, brown specks, etc. etc....could it be a fungus?  I do have some breakage but I could have caused this by pulling on it.  I felt like I was infested but never once saw a bug or any living thing....i wash my hair way to often....i have beeat least twice a day.....i m obsessed.....i have been to the dermatologist at least five times.......they never biopsied or have done anything but prescribe medicine.....

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
From the symptoms it looks like seborrheic dermatitis. It is an inflammatory reaction related to the proliferation of normal skin habitant Malassezia. From the symptoms it does not look like any fungal infection which presents as itchy patches with hair loss. However to confirm the diagnosis I suggest you to get a biopsy of the scalp skin done.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Try a different dermatologist. Obviously something is wrong. You wash your hair a lot. Could the shampoo be causing your problems?
