I would suggest that skin scrapings of the area may be evaluated microscopically to ascertain if a fungal infection is present. If diagnosis remains elusive, a biopsy may provide a definite diagnosis.
I understand how frustrating this may be for you. Bumps on the scalp have seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis and discoid lupus as differentials. Seborrheic dermatitis may present as yellowish greasy scales on the scalp commonly called dandruff. Redness may not be a primary characteristic. As for psoriasis, scaling and pinpoint bleeding may also be noted. Discoid lupus may present with red crusting lesions that are well demarcated on the scalp.
