scalp pain hair loss

scalp pain hair loss

I started having a lot of hair shedding last Aug. 07. Along with the shedding there was a great deal of pain in the area.  The back of my head first , then the left side, about eye level and now it has moved to the right side .  Not the top  There are a lot of bright pink skin ,and red blotches.  But smooth skin. Two Dermatologsts and two biospys (biopsies) later , that only said inflamation (inflammation). I am still shedding and still in pain. It looks like the cappalaries are comming to the top of the scalp and pushing the hair out. I had a great deal of hair to start with.  More than most.  I don't have much to go  I have been given every lotion and potion.  Nothing helps . Usually makes my scalp burn more.  All blood work normal several times.  help

Hi,

I have a few questions for clarification:

Was there any history of a previous pregnancy?

Any use of birth control pills?

Any intake of medications ?

Any history of hypothyroidism?

Any excessive weight loss or extreme course of dieting lately?

Any family history of early onset baldness?

Do keep us posted with your answers.

Hi,

The presence of inflammation may also suggest psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis.

Has your physician evaluated you along this line?

However, psoriasis may not explain the excessive hair shedding that you have mentioned. A differential in your case will be telogen effluvium which is usually associated with several factors like hormones and medications.

Has your physician considered telogen effluvium ? With telogen effluvium, the hair may shed in patches and may take a long time to regrow.

There is no psoriasis, or seborrheic dermatitis.  The bx just said inflamation (inflammation) my scalp just feels tight . There is no patches of hair loss , it is pretty even all over just more thin or the left side. There is no flaking or itching just burning and tingling. The area that is red you can see tiny little viens comming to the top of the scalp .  Alot of the scalp looks pink like I have had a sun burn. I had my hormones checked last week normal.
