scar/lump leftover from infected hair follicle

by ch_yvr, Sep 23, 2008 09:27PM
Hi,
I had a mild staph infection which was treated successfully.  I had a few infected hair follicles, which turned into cysts before I cleared the staph infection.

It's been about 2 months since the infection was cleared, but I still have small lumps on my neck where the cysts were.  It's not the end of the world but they do look bad, like large pimples.  They have reduced in size and appearance slightly, but at this rate it's going to be years until they clear completely.

Is there any way to remove them - laser, or surgery?

Thanks very much.

You can discuss having them lanced with your dr. He would clean out the areas. He should be able to do that in the office. Glad to hear yours were treated successfully. I have suffered with them a year. Got them in my top and bottom lash line, which has been treated by the doctor before for that area, and did have them one behind the other on the top lids before, that he treated. This has been going on for months. Before that I kept getting them in the groin area, and cracks of my legs. What meds were you treated with?   RJ

Hi,

A scar is an overgrowth of fibrous tissue and blood vessels that form as a result of injury, a cut or a burn.

Sometimes surgery may be required to improve the scar. In this case, the surgeon will remove excess scar tissue, and reposition the incision so that it heals in a less visible pattern. This scar removal surgery is usually done under local or general anesthesia in the doctor's office.

Vit E creams are supposed to lighten scars, so you could apply them directly on the scar, but it may take e long time for results to show, if at all.

Scars, especially old scars, may be treated with PhotoDerm, a non-invasive, laser-like device that emits an intense flash of light that works directly on the scar by reducing the blood vessels present in the scar tissue.

Let us know if you may have any other questions.
