scrotum problem

scrotum problem

Dr I have sore and itchy scrotum. It is very red. the hair follicles are enlarged. Pressure from setting for long periods makes it worse. My Dr has prescribed several things, Lotrisone lotion, nystatin and triamcinolone acetonide cream, for example. Nothiing helps although I admit I maybe didn't continue using it long enough. Now,if it should hurt at night I apply a warm compress which helps. Then I use
gold bond medicated powder. After the stinging stops it feels better. I have also used desitin ointment. That helps but only for a short time and I quit using it.
NOw for rest of the story. I am 83 am incontinent & so have to  use 2-3 Pads daily since my proststatectomy 10 years ago. I am sort of resigned to the problem but I wonder about the enlarged hair folicles which have shown up only a few months ago.
Bladder control is my biggest problem but I would still like to improve the scrotom problem.
What do you suggest or do I just have to live with it.?

Bill:

I think you have irritation, rather than fungus or yeast.  Your incontinence probably is contributing to this.  Keeping the area as dry as you can is of course important.  Cream containing low concentrations of cortisone will help a lot too.  Your doctor should consider hydrocortisone 2.5% or desonide 0.05%.  The creams you've used so far contain either stronger steroids or antifungal components.

Don't worry about the follicles--they're most likely just part of the irritation.

You may have to "live with" this to a certain extent, but you should be able to soften the symptoms a lot just with moisture prevention and occasional treatment.

Best.
