seborrheic dermatitis ? ( i'm not sure )

by johnny, Oct 13, 2000 12:00AM
Hi ,

I'm sorry if you have already covered this topic.
I'm 21 years old and I have a problem with the skin on my face , especially with the scin on the chin , around the nose and between my eyebrows. If i don't shave for like 3 days the skin on my chin and moustache gets red and itchy
and it starts to peel(small white flakes). But if i shave each day than i doesn't peel ( why is that ? ).Also when i go out in the sun i feel like my skin is burning ( this happens also when it's very cold outside) .I have had this problem for 3 years , and it was a lot worse in the beginning.I have visited lots of doctors a i have tried like five different ointments ( one of the doctors told me that some of them have made the situation even worse )

What i would like to know is , is it possible that i have another disease that i don't know about , that might be the
reason for the condition of my skin.

I would like to know if a veneric disease can cause this condition !?

Should i use an aftershave ?

What should i use to wash my face (what kind of facial wash) ?

P.S. The scin on my cheeks doesn't peel , only on the chin and moustache. The flakes around the nose are very small.

Johnny:

It certainly sounds like seborrhea to me.  The cause is unknown.  You can suppress it very nicely with hydrocortisone 1% (OTC), though the condition may recur.  Use a mild soap like Dove or Neutrogena.

Best.
