severely dysplastic mole

by allentown, Feb 22, 2008 03:55PM
This discussion is related to Severly atypical mole.

Hi,

Is severely dysplastic mole considered Melanoma?  I had a small mole taken off my back leg and they sent it out for testing and it came back severely dysplastic mole.  It was .2mm thick which is very very thin.  They are going to excision it more next week.  Is this something to worry about turning into melanoma if taken out?

I am very concerned and worried don't like the word skin cancer. I know that these types of moles have a likly hood of turning to melanoma but is it likely?

Hi,

The typical signs and symptoms of a melanoma are - ' Asymmetrical skin lesion, irregular border of the lesion, multiple colours, moles greater than 5 mm are more likely to be melanomas than smaller moles, change of a mole or lesion may be a hint that the lesion is becoming malignant or elevation.'

You could read more about the condition at the following link -
' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melanoma'

Nothing can be said with surety without having a look at the leions and it would be best to consult your doctor for a clinical examination.

Let us know about what your doctor advises and post us if you need any other information.

Regards.
