should i be worried?

hello doctor.  i am a circumcised male in my early twenties and had sex about 5 weeks ago.  a few days later i got a sore throat which wouldnt go away and ended up being an ear infection. In addition to the sore throat, i also had irritated skin on the head of my penis the day after sex.  It would be very red at times with small red bumps and 5 weeks later it still gets read. the red bumps are tiny and not very noticeable.  Some times it looks slightly normal other times it looks really red.  When i first noticed the irritation, it felt like it would burn  or tingle at times during the day.  I havent seen any blisters and there is no pain to the touch or pain while urinating.  After the sex, i also noticed two very small crater like tears on the shaft of the penis around where the foreskin is. They do not hurt but have me worried.i think i would have noticed them before the intercourse and they were not there before.  I have seen a doctor and got tested for chlamidia and gonnorea which came up negative.  An ingrown hair on my chest was also samlped for herpes which also came up negative. I am wondering what the redness is on the head of my penis and what the small crater like tears on the shaft of my penis are.  I am still concerned that it could be herpes but am not sure.  I also got another doctors opinion and was told that it didnt appear to be herpes and the crater like tears could possibly be scar tissue of some sort.  Please reply with any advice that you could give me or cream to get rid of the irritation.  Hopefully this is just me being paranoid.

dr.- i saw the dermatologist again and he said that it did not appear to be herpes...the appointment was very fast and i dont think he examined me close enough....i still feel like these small crater like sores are spreading.. there is another one that appeared recently....(very small) they do not hurt although i can feel them at times and the skin on the head of the penis is extremely irritated...i also noticed a small white spot that appears to be under the skin right next to my urethra.the spot does not hurt and will be more noticable at times than others.do i have anything that sounds like an STD??

I think they're part of the irritation, and will go away when the irritation does.  For further advice, you'll need to ask an doctor in person.

I agree with your doctors that this does not sound like herpes.  It sounds instead like irritation.  My advice is to leave the penis alone, to avoid friction, and to apply nothing more than a bland moisturizer like Lubriderm.

Take care.
