Im 28, and had acne since i was 13. my skin was clear till about 4months ago, now i have lumps which are big and solid under my jawline and in my neck, also on my chest and my back. my hair is shoulder lengh and i dye it every 3weeks with permanent hair colour. ive used the same hair dye for over a year but recently changed washing powder and shampoo and conditioner. my diet has not changed.. ive now switched hair products apart from my hair dye, and also swapped my washing powder to non bio, but my skin is worse. even at the height of my acne in my teens i never had acne in around my neck and jawline and never on my chest. my advise as this is making me feel so ugly and depressed. thank you

Your spots are unlikely to be caused by hair dye, detergent or diet.
Acne is caused by sensitivity to hormones, a tendancy for oily skin and acne bacteria.
There are lots of things you can do to manage your spots until you are no longer prone to them. Ask your doctor to prescribe you the anti-androgen contracpetive pill Dianette, which offers birth control as well as clearing spots. You could also take a course of oral antibiotics. If your doctor decides you warrant both the pill and antibiotics use a condom as there's a risk the antibiotics could lessen the contraceptive properties of the pill. Your doctor could also prescribe a topical acne-gel such as Differin, which will be stronger than the spot creams you can buy in shops. Check out the Acne Forum for more advice. Loiloi xx
