skin on hands turned wrinkly, swollen

i had a few rough patches on my hands, so the dermatologist gave me topicort .25%. he said apply it twice a day and it will make my hands very soft. he failed to mention it was a steroid, and i never bothered to look it up. after using it a couple of days i noticed my hands seemed swollen throughout but didn't think anything of it. also, the tips of my nails are lifting off of the nailbed and slightly flatting out. then a week later, the skin on my distal joints sort of "erupted" and there is now excess wrinkly skin on all of them. a few days after that, the skin on my knuckles also turned very red and puffy and now is more wrinkly. i didn't make the connection until i discovered i had been using steroids this entire time. i am extremely furious and have stopped using it but the conditions have not improved. it's been about 2 or 3 weeks. what do i do? will this go away on it's own?
