skin rash

Hi. I am on vacation in Honduras and have developed a very wierd rash on my arms, legs, hands, and chest. It itches all over and looks like small blisters but in reality its just small bumps. I have been in the sun for a week after not being in the sun for about two months but I live in Miami so I am always in the sun and have never gotten a rash before. Also I got quite burnt on my back and do not have a rash there. I am taking Claritin but it doesnt seem to help and have never been allegeric to anything. I am quite worried that I have developed a sun allergy, or that it is something worst. Is it a sun allergy? I would greatly appreciate your help!

thanks!

Whatever it is you may need to see a doctor because your probably going to need a prescribtion to a steroid pill.

as marcialeer said, a doctor is your best bet. they will need to see the rash in its active stages to determine the cause. it's very hard to say what exactly caused it without seeing you in person.

i hope you feel better. until you can get into the doctor i might try oatmeal baths and using an overthe counter  anti itch such as caladryl.

Hi,

What you describe seems like sweat dermatitis or heat rash or solar urticaria.

You should try to keep the area dry and clean. Try some powder to absorb the sweat. You could take oral antihistamine medications and apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions.

If the symptoms are still persistent, consult your dermatologist and get a proper clinical evaluation done.

Meanwhile, avoid sun exposure and use a medicated sunscreen.

Let us know if you have any doubts and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Good luck.
