small raised red spot on face

by cocobe, May 18, 2008 05:31PM
Hello. I have a small raised spot on my face that I first noticed when I was in high school, which would be almost 8 years ago. At first i believed it was a pimple and at the time it was the same color as the rest of my skin. I tried to "pop" it and nothing ever came out of it. After doing so the spot became red and has been that way ever since. It is not painful, it never has been. It is not hard or does not feel as if it is a clogged pore and it has never changed in size or shape. Most people mistake it for a pimple and that is really the best way I can describe what it looks like.I am wondering what it might be and if it might be possible to get rid of it or at least get it back to my normal skin tone. Thank you.

Hi.

This could have been a mole or a skin tag. This has been present for years and the appearance has never changed. There is no associated redness, pain or swelling. There is nothing to worry about in this case.

If you want to have this removed, I suggest that you seek consult with a dermatologist. Firstly, this bump has to be given the right diagnosis. You may need surgical removal or less invasive procedures in removing this. Your physician has to determine first what could have caused the problem. It could be vascular or it could be a benign growth such as a mole or  a skin tag. Techniques for removal vary here.

Hi

First, thank you for the quick response! Second, the area did change color but only after I tried to "pop" it thinking it was a pimple.
