small red pinhead sized very itchy rash

by redbone4one, Mar 19, 2009 11:24AM
I was given Chantix to quit smoking, took it for almost 3 wks, quit smoking after 8 days on it.  I have not changed any laundry soaps, dryer sheets, body soap, shampoo, perfume, deodorant....anything I can think of that would cause this.  I called the nurse at my doctors office, who never returned the call (does not suprise me)...needless to say I switched doctors today.  I ended up in the ER when I couldn't take the itching anymore and was given 50mg of prednisone on the spot and a script for 40mg a day for 3 days and told to take benadryl, the prednisone given to me in the hospital made me violently sick for 12 hrs.....and made it for 2 days that I could not eat without feeling nauseated.  I will say the prednisone helped to calm it down slightly, but it is back with a vengence and the 3 day doses of prednisone is not touching it.  I originally think that it either started on my right inner wrist area with one bump, or it may have been over my left eyebrow that seemed irritated after having my eyebrows threaded (white thread, been there a million times).  It covers my back thoroughly, my neck partially, my left ear is very itchy in and out, my chest, ribcage area, abdomen, both arms mostly from elbow down...and it is now spreading down my stomach further to the groin area.  It is very very itchy, not always red, bumpy, feels like being rubbed with grainy sandpaper.  I was told to revisit the ER, and feel idiotic for doing so....but not sure what else to do.  I have also tried the benadryl spray, aveeno oatmeal bath, and gold bond medicated lotion.....nothing is giving relief.  I don't know what else to do.  Guess I am gonna end up back in the ER today.
