sore fingernail

My thumb nail is a little rough and white and soreish to press on,

Any advice?

Try not to worry, easier said than done, I know.

It is a good thing that you made the appointment and the doctor is taking things seriously to get you checked out.   Some disorders can affect the nails, that is why your doctor is getting you checked out.

Did the doctor not say anything to you with regard to the inflammation and soreness?

Hope your appointments come through quickly so that you won't have worry for too long.

I went to Dr about this and he had not seen this before.  It is the thumbnail only that is affected and the whiteness started from the base. It is slightly sore when pressed,

He now wants to test my immune system and everything, so slightly worried!!   But , again , no other nail is affected.

Any advice?

The enlarged picture is a bit blurred, but what I can see is that there is a redness and swelling along the nail bed.  As you mention that it feels sore and hurts to press, it is highly likely that there is an infection.

If there is a boil or abscess forming, the doctor may consider lancing the skin to draw out the rubbish.

Make an urgent appointment to see your doctor, who will prescribe either an antibiotic cream for you to put on to the thumb, or antibiotic tablets.
