squamous cell carcinoma

by sadie1246, Jun 19, 2008 07:31AM
I have skin cancer and it is spreading all over my hands and body, my doctors tell me it is from my childhood and the sun, the only thing is it is in spots the sun didn't touch.  Can it go into my body?  Some doctors tell me yes, others tell me no.  It itches terribly and I think it spreads that way. I put locoid on it but when I stop it comes back worse and I have used various other creams besides having radiation and cutting.  Any suggestions?

Hello,
Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common cancer of the skin (after basal cell carcinoma but more common than melanoma). It usually occurs in areas exposed to the sun, and can generally be treated by excision only. Sunlight exposure and immunosuppression are risk factors for SCC of the skin.
The risk of metastasis( that is its ability to spread to other parts of the body) is larger than with basal cell carcinoma.Therfore it can be invasive.

contains the active ingredient hydrocortisone butyrate, which is a type of medicine called a corticosteroid. Corticosteroids are medicines used for reducing inflammation. The hydrocortisone butyrate in Locoid preparations is formulated in a moisturising base that provides a layer of oil on the surface of the skin, helping to prevent water from evaporating from the skin surface. This helps reduce the dryness, scaling and itching of skin.

Continue to use Locoid as it would be the best to prevent any complications at the site of surgery.
