staff infection

I have a friend who has had a "bump" on the back of his neck for about 8 months and it recently enlarged.  He would not go to the doctor until them.  The doctor said that it is a staff infection, provided antibotic (antibiotic) and it is starting to drain.  He says that he is weak and I wanted to know if the staff would be making him sick, would a lady get staff infection from having sex with him.  The doctor says that he will pass the urine via his urine.  I would also like to know if he is in any danger from letting this go so long.
