sticky extremely greasy hair!

Im 24 years old and gave birth to my daughter 4 months ago. Other than loosing some hair I havent had any other problems. Around 4 weeks ago i washed my hair as usual and as I was drying it I noticed it was very sticky and greasy looking around the top of my head . I tried to re- wash but this made no difference. I thought maybe this was the result of using a hair product although I rarely use anything just the occasional hair moose maybe evey couple of weeks depeding on styling. I have tried to wash my hair with different shampoo but nothing is working! My hair fels sticky after washing and is very greasy aroud the roots and three inces into my hair from the top. I am so worried as I have never had greasy hair or skin. I have never suffered from acne either. I have thick dry hair normally and am puzzled by this latest development. Does anyone know how to treat this or has anyone suffered from somthing similar? I am open to suggestions and would welcome any advice as having stick hair is so distressing, its is so greasy I caanot even go out as it looks so bad.

I had the same issue. It first started at the crown of my head. I read within this discussion that Listerine worked. Sadly after I used it, the stickiness went from the crown to the whole top part of my head. However, after I bought Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree oil shampoo from Sally Beauty Supply, about 80% of the stickiness went away! Then, a couple days later, I washed it again with that shampoo and it was gone. I honestly think that this is some kind of fungus on the scalp. Tea tree should help. Good luck guys. I understand your frustration. On the bright side, even though I only had this ordeal for about a week, I have been sticky free for a year now.

Hi!

I have had the same exact problem for over a year now and finally found a solution that works.  First, wash your hair with SUAVE clarifying shampoo (fairly cheap).  Wash it twice if necessary.  Then get some LISTERINE (the brown, original kind) and put three capfuls on the problem area and rub gently with both hands for a couple of minutes and let it sit in. You can add some water in with the listerine as well.  Wash out, and the oil should reduce significantly.  If still not all gone after the first time, do it one or two more times and your problem should be solved.

Hope I helped!

Hi, I'm 23 I have no children, and my hair has been through loads of colouring and product abuse over the years, then I started to notice patches of my hair went sticky, I tries product after product to get rid of this stickyness and it wouldnt budge, until some one recommended herbal essence fresh balance, this is a strong clarifying shampoo and I rinsed my hair, lathered shampoo rinsed out and re lathed scrubbing all the hair from tips to roots, and then used cold water to close the pores and then used some conditioner and rinse with Lukewarm/cold water. I found this helped loads and thankfully all my stickyness is virtually gone :) and I've only used this product twice so far :) hope I've helped!!

I have the same problem. I use no products in my hair whatsoever. I use one normal expensive shampoo every night. That is all. Then, every once in awhile, I get this weird hair gunk where I can't even run a comb through it without breaking it. It is sticky not greasy. It is beyond bizarre. I have no children.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
There is no medical condition as such which causes oiliness of the hair. The only thing that can explain your oiliness of hair is the hormonal changes that occur in the body after delivery. I would suggest you to clean your hair frequently with a mild shampoo(you can use the ones for oily hair) and don’t apply any conditioner on the hair. Also you can shampoo twice during each wash and apply shampoo on the scalp without piling the hair on top.

I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
