strange body hair problem

by sissy, Aug 02, 2001 12:00AM
I have a strange problem. For years I have been losing a great deal of hair in pubic area with no regrowth.  It started when I was a teen and at the time I had a lot of white discharge with gobs of hair falling out.  The hair has changed in that it is dry, brittle, and lays flat on my skin.  I am now 31. What is wrong and what can be done?  Thanks for any help.

There is a condition called alopecia areata, which produces bald patches.  Although most attnetion is paid to scalp bald spots, this can in fact happen anywhere on the body.  The hair often grows back eventually, but treatments don't help much.  After all this time, I doubt anything will regrow.  For definitive diagnosis, you should see a dermatologist, but it's unlikely there are any health implications, or available treatments.

Best.
