sudden rash?

I am new on here so hello to everyone but I am wondering if anyone can give me any ideas?
5 days ago my 2year old grandson who has been fit and well, got up in the morning and said his hands hurt him.
On both of his palms, one worse than the other, were red blotches? We took him to the GP who wasnt sure what it was and said to keep an eye on it if it got worse. Yesterday his mum took him back and another GP said she thought it was eczema? he is staying with me over the next few days and today he has been complaining again that his hands hurt and has been really itching them, even when he has been asleep. He isnt his normal self and has seemt a little unwell. The palms of his hands are still red and blotchy but now they feel very dry. The GP has given him 1% hydrocortisone cream to use once a day, and 2.5mls of antihistamine medicine in liquid form to take 3 times a day.
I am really worried as to what this could be, I suffer from psoriasis, and eczema does run in my family but I have never known it to appear so suddenly. Has anyone ever heard of a child with perfectly clear hands to have a sudden onset of eczema appear overnight? .

Thankyou so much for replying I really appreciate it.
After having treatment prescribed by the doctor, it still hasn't gone and now my grandsons hands are peeling after being given Eumovate to apply twice a day.
He has now been referred to see a dermatologist on the 13th October so we hope to be given a definite diagnosis.
Thankyou again and I will let you know the outcome. Take care.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL

Hello,
It sounds like contact dermatitis or eczema skin. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. He can take some oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps but they are to be taken after consulting his doctor.

For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide). But they are available under prescription and should be taken only after consulting a dermatologist. Symptoms  can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Use good quality moisturizers to prevent moisture loss from the skin.

I hope it helps. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
