sun spots

by malibuSA, Aug 10, 2008 12:44PM
I get pea sized spots only on my upper arms when I go into the sun, regardless of the degree of protective lotion I use. They do not itch. They go away with a few hours after I get out of the sun. People ask me what they are. I don't even know how to reach this. It does not appear to be a sun allergy.

This discussion is related to reaction to the sun.

Hi

If sun exposure appears to trigger this skin condition, then this may be a form of photosensitivity reaction. Solar urticaria may be considered if welts and hives are noted on the skin given short exposure to sunlight or certain wave lengths of UV. Although at this point, this may not be the primary differential as this is quite rare.

I would advise that you have this assessed by your dermatologist. If this condition has been present for quite some time then this may be a hyperpigmentation reaction. Freckles and moles as well as fungal infections may present with skin discolorations.

If the diagnosis seems to be elusive, a skin biopsy will best give a definitive diagnosis.
