swollen, warm to touch, and itchy skin following use of sunscreen

10 days after using sun screen on my neck and face [and being in the sun for a few hours] my skin is still itchy, swollen and also appears to be warm to the touch.   My skin get extremly itchy when warm-hot  water is put on it [i.e. a shower].  The symtomes are still present 10 days later but have been gradually reducing each day since initally applied.

Note: it is possible that the sunscreen used was a year or two old... are there expirery dates of such products that might be the problem?
