tinea cruris problem

I have had a rash in the fold above pubic area and the inner top of leg at the groin. It is only on one side of the "fold" area and worse on the left leg/groin area.  I have had it for quite some time with minimal discomfort. I assumed it was from perspiration therefore cleansing well and keeping the area dry. About a month ago it exploded into this horrible red, oozing, weeping, burning, itching problem. The rash dries at night with a crust over it by morning. I'm assuming this is whatever weeps out of it during the night. The last few nights it has also itched so much that it wakes me. I have tried putting gauze in the fold to avoid the skin from touching. I am not over weight so when I stand up the gauze falls away.  I have been to  my primary doctor twice. She prescribed an ointment and a powder for yeast. Have been using this for two weeks with no sign of improvement. She recommended a dermatologist and I have an apt. Jul 13th. I'm not sure I can stand this for a month!  I plan to call as many dermatologists in the morning as I can to try to obtain an apt. sooner. Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I cannot confirm anything with out examination ,but it can be intertrigo. An intertrigo is an inflammation (rash) of the body folds. It most commonly occurs due to bacterial, viral or fungal infection. An intertrigo usually appears red and raw-looking, and may also itch, ooze, and be sore.

Pls keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove.Avoid any kind of cosmetics.Topical zinc oxide cream like Sudocrem, Desitin are very helpful(apply with a paper towel and not directly with hands).Application of mild steroid cream like dermacort also helps. For the itching pls take some over the counter antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin. In case the symptoms persist then antifungals may be needed.Pls consult a dermatologist in that case.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Warm regards.
