treating acne after accutane

by ellymae1, Oct 12, 2008 06:45PM
My son was on Accutane for 4.5 months and his acne did improve but not resolve.  We took him off of it early because it seemed to be causing some depression issues.  (We stopped treatment after much consideration, as we can not be sure that the drug was the cause).  He does still have moderate acne, which his Derm says is mostly aside effect from the Accutane and will resolve once he is off of it for awhile.  She says he does not need any treatment at this time.  Does this make sense?  And what treatment do you usually recommend after Accutane?
What do you think of frequent face steaming?  Do regular facials usually control acne?

After Accutane I usually have the patient wait a year and use topical therapy at most.  Facials and steaming may help a bit but they don't really control acne.  I agree with your dermatologist that continued improvement is likely.  41/2 months should be enough, at least for the foreseeable future.

Best.
