urethra burning

Hi, I have burning in the urethra.  Have gone to the local hospital and have been treated for chylmidia and trich...also a swab has shown negative for gonnorhea.  The burning is usually there most of the time but there are times when it is gone and appears later in the day.  I am starting to have some lower back pain, which was looked at by a doctor at the hospital, a urine sample was taken but it came back ok...any ideas would be great..thanks

I have had Urethra burning for about 3 and a half months.  It is also along with a burning in my anus and eyes.  I was tested for chylmidia and gonnorhea and all were negative.  I have been on Zithromax(supposedly the newest antibiotic going haha) for about a month.  I went to the Urologist and he turned up nothing either.  He did the painful scope and nothing.  I have done some searching on my own also with the help of a good friend, who is an infectiuos disease specialist, and think I may have reiters syndrome.  This includes Prostitits and urethra burning along with eyes being red and burning and joint pain (arthritis).  I was just wondering if anyone esle has had these types of symptoms and could point me to more information about any of these.  My next step is to a specialist at a major hospital here in NH (Dartmouth Hitchcock).  I find that the regular practitioners and the Urologist is just not going to get me the help I need.  So, any pointers out there I really would appreciate them.  Especially on prostititis.
Thanks,

Hey guys. I hope that my story can help. I was having the same problem as you all only a bit worse. I was also having problems with frequent urination, and weak urine strain. I was having no discharge from the penis at the time. At my trip to the doctor, I had both urine and the painful urethral cultures done. Both cultures came back negative for Gonnorhea and Chlamydia. They had better. I'm only 28 years old and have been with my wife for the past 6 years now. At the time the doctor did not want to wait for test results and gave me an injection of Rocephin (a drug known to be the most effective against Gonnorhea) and put me on both Ciprofloxacin and Doxicyclene (both equally effective for Gonnorhea and Chlamydia)for 12 days. He also did a rectal examination of my prostate and said that it was "boggy" and my condition may point to Prostatitis.

When these systems did not go away after my antibiotic regime, I went back to the doctor. My only symptoms that I was having was burning in the Urethra and some slight pain in the testicles.
I was sent to the Urologist. He did another examination (Rectal) and said my prostate wasn't large but is was boggy. Most Prostatitis patients have severe symptoms. In my case, they are only partial. The Uro put me back on the Ciprofloxican for another 30 days and told me that I would have to change my diet it the Cipro treatment failed to work. Again the burning sensation in the Urethra increased. It would go away for a few hours, then come back. The pain in the testicular area does the same. I have had the tip of my penis (meateus) get a bit red and swollen now.

I chose to continue to look for alternative resources because I wasn't going to accept the whole "change your diet" and it will all go away rubbish.

I found a clinic in Tuscon, AZ (The Prostatitis Clinic) and placed a phone call to Dr. John Polacheck M.D. He is not a Urologist. Unfortunately most Uro's don't have a clue on how to properly treat Prostatitis. In his research he practices prostate drainiage through massage and cultures the secretions at the tip of the penis. (Don't worry nothing gets inserted in the penis) Unfortunately, he does have to do the prostate massage rectally. Anyway, he was able to culture something by my second visit. It turns out that I have a Staph infection. Along with a Chlamydia like bacteria call Ureaplasma. The scary part is that the Staph is resistant to the antibiotics that I have been given already. I am currently with Urethral burning after 5 visits. I am on 3 different antibiotics proven by a microbiologist to have been shown sensitive.

Fellas, antatomy wise your prostate does run along the Urethra and can cause inflamation or burning if an infection takes to the prostate.

By the way, the wife got tested too. Guess what she has? Same thing as me. If you happen to receive treatment for your problem, have your partner tested and or treated also. That way you are not passing it back an forth.

I don't know if this will help any of you. I know that this can be very frusterating. It has been and still is for me!

If you have anything specific you want to ask me about email me and I would be more than happy to answer you back. Good luck guys.

Oh by the way guys, my wife was cultured by the good old doctor too and can you guess what she has? Same thing

Hi, I have had the same thing for almost a year now, with ALL tests coming back negative. I am healthy and with one partner. I saw a Urologist who told me he thinks I need to stop worrying. I am sooo frustrated and can't find any answers to this mysterious burning that comes and goes. Please let me know if you find any more info. P. S. I even had a cystoscopy to cancel out any other problems. Still nothing showed up wrong.

In light of the negative cultures and urine test, it's probably just irritation.  Try drinking several glasses a day of water or other fluid.  If symptoms persist, consider consulting a urologist.

Best.
