very mild rash with bump in center

DOC,

Recently, I have experienced a type of mild rash on the crease of my upper left thigh.  This rash does NOT itch or burn.  However, there was a single bump that was located near the center of the mild 'rash.'  I squeezed the bump and it popped just like a pimple.  The fluid inside the bump was pus-like, not clear.  The pus kinda looked like a blackhead or a regular zit.  After that, I proceeded to apply PROACTIVE to the 'rash and bump.'  The days following the popping and applying of Proactive, I noticed that it almost felt like a bruise to the touch.  Should I be worried of a possible STD (with only two protected sexual encounters in the last year)?  Or could it just be folliculitis?

P.s. is it possible to get a bump like that in a strecth mark?

P.s.s. please dont send me the avg. folliculitis memo that is sent around... I know that im the least of your concerns and would greatly appreciate your professional advice.

Thanks

Hello,

Sounds like folliculitis or boils. But I cannot completely rule out sebaceous cysts also, going by the size of the bumps.A dermatological examination will help in clearing any misconceptions and reaching a diagnosis.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me postedabout what the dermatologist says.

I also get these types of bumps on the back of my thighs and the back of my neck.  They resemble a boil, too.

Well, these bumps vary in sizes.  Some are as big as a nickel, others can be about the size of a dime.  Some form a white head on them, others do not.  I use to pop them.  When popped, they would contain matter kinda like a zit, after that they would just bleed.  Some have left a purplish scar from where ive squeezed them.  My doctor told me to scrub the area with a Loofa.  I have recently got one of these bumps, on my right inner thigh (right where my thighs rub).  I scrubbed it for a couple of days and it has receeded.  I should go to a dermatologist, but I am going to the doctor March 9 for a routine checkup.  Maybe I should go to see both?

Hello,

Can you tell me the size of the bump?As you have mentioned that you went to the doctor because of big, knotty lumps,so it can a swollen lymph node or a sebaceous cyst.By the description of symptoms,it sounds like a sebaceous cyst.I would suggest a dermatological examination.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Thanks Doc,  I have seen my doctor in the past.  I went because of these big, red, knotty like bumps on my inner thighs.  He prescribed cephalaxen.  It cleared up while i was on the anitbotics.  Once the anitbotics were gone, the folliculitis presisted.  Would a dermatologist prescribe something more potent to get rid of this?   It seems that this folliculitis never goes away!!!  maybe losing some weight would help also?

Hello,

It sounds like folliculitis. Folliculitis is the inflammation of one or more hair follicles. The condition may occur anywhere on the skin, even on stretch marks.

Folliculitis starts when hair follicles are damaged by friction from clothing or blockage of the follicle.White material comes out from infected follicle which is due to staph infection.

Pls keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove.Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed.Pls consult a dermatologist in that case.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.
