My daughter has warts on her hands and her arm.  We got rid of the ones on her arm hands but for 5 years could not get rid of the on on her arm.  It got bigger and bigger, finally we asked to see a specialist after seeing 5 doctors and he removed it.  Now my daughter has a scar on her arm.  I just wish it was taken cared of 5 years ago instead of getting the run around.  Now she has white splotches on her face.  Is this related to her warts on her hands?  Or are these not warts?

Hi

Common warts are local growths in the skin caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection. They are generally diagnosed clinically, on the basis of location and appearance.

You should discuss with your doctor about other treatment options such as removal by freezing (cryotherapy), burning (electrocautery), laser treatment, podofilox solution / gel, or imiquimid cream,  immunotherapy or some vaccine treatment. Several treatment sessions are usually required. The pulse dye laser is a technique for removal, with little incidence of complications like scarring. Other treatments your doctor may use can be use of some immune-stimulator, injections of candida (yeast) or injections of an antibiotic bleomycin (used in cancer therapy).

It should be noted that since warts are caused by a virus, they may recur following attempts at surgical removal. However, they often heal themselves within one- two years.

In any case no attempt should be made to remove a wart by cutting, tearing, picking, or any other method. Proper hygiene should be maintained to avoid spreading the virus to other parts.

Regards
