I had an itchy rash near my hairline about 7 years ago which was hard to describe which itched but also had a painful feeling of burning under it and it came on at the worse time of stress in my life. It looked like the picture I have seen which describes shingles, so I think that is what it was. It was not like some of the other skin conditions desribed and it has never come back.
Hi
The presence of red bumps and blisters on the hairline may be a case of seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis or folliculitis. Seborrheic dermatitis may present with greasy scales that may be itchy. Psoriasis presents as white scales that may be associated with pinpoint bleeding when the scales slough off. Folliculitis presents with reddish bumps that involve the hair follicles. Fungal infections may also present similarly in some cases.
It is necessary to point out that dermatitic skin conditions may eventually lead to an itch scratch cycle that may cause excoriations. This leads to an eczematous skin condition.
I suggest that you wash the area with a mild cleanser. Use a mild vitamin E cream to keep the area from drying. Topical antifungal medications with corticosteroid preparations may be of help.
Maybe three years ago I developed a large place
across my back, and a small place on the back of my
head, that was an intensely itchy rash that developed
into blisters which eventually dried up, but after
awhile the whole cycle started again.
When it first began I saw my doc and she declared it
to be Shingles. Everything I have read says Shingles
has pain. I have no pain, just the intense itch. I took
one course of Zovirax, which made the rash clear up.
But soon after I completed the medication, my back
started breaking out again.
Soon thereafter I learned that L-Lysine will help with
Herpes so now I take it all the time, twice a day. As
long as I do that, and am careful how I eat and take
care of myself, I can keep the rash at bay. If I have a
soft drink or other sweets, or am stressed, the itching
will begin -- even before the rash develops. When I
feel the itch, I hurry and take some extra L-Lysine and
that usually can stop it from breaking out (and reduces
the itch down to nothing most of the time). If I have to
use L-Lysine the rest of my life, so be it!
I hope the L-Lysine will help you. Having that recurrent
itchy rash can drive you crazy! L-Lysine makes life
much better!
