Hi, An open would by itself may not lead to cancer. It would rather lead to infection at the site and then lead to systemic infections. However, It is a known fact that chronic non healing wounds may develop into a cancerous lesion over a period of time. this is connected to the body's numerous attempts to repair the lesion, which results in a development of a mass at the site which may have a cancerous potential. Squamous cell carcinoma (Marjolin's Ulcer)are most commonly related to such lesions. However, each case is different and I would like to know some background on the open wound that you are talking about here.
