what are these bites from?

I have been bitten twice now. The bites itch at first, then they ooze an orange/redish substance that is about the consistency of molasses (then it hardens and crystallizes as molasses would) then it eats away at my skin leaving a small hole. I wouldn't really care that much as the itching does not last long and it's really not very painful, but for some reason the bugs keep biting me on my tattoos (which are on my ankles) and the hole the bite leaves makes the ink disappear. I live in Long Beach, CA and we do have ants in the house. They could also be stings, I don't notice then when they happen.
