white spots

by billy0012000, Dec 11, 2008 04:44AM
gday doc, i have white spots, all over. ive always since a child had 2 or 3 but for the last 2 years it has spread like you wouldnt believe, now its practically all over by *** (excuse the expression) and my hands. the last straw was the fact that it is now spearding on my face. it doesnt itch or anything, it basically has no harm to me but the fact that it is white. my brother has also started getting the white spots for the last 6 years but he never had it before like me. i have never seen a doctor but my brother has and he was told that it was stress related and prescribed this ridiculaslly overpriced cream which did nothing and also suggested getting under some light for 2/3 times a week. any ideas on how i could get rid of this annoying white spots. by the way im 33 and brother is my twin.

Hello,

Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but it can be pityriasis versicolor or pityriasis alba. Pityriasis versicolor is caused by an overgrowth of a yeast fungus and are found mainly on sun exposed areas. Pityriasis alba is a common hypopigmented dermatitis. This is a self-limited disorder that usually resolves by adulthood.Severe cases may benefit by Psoralen plus ultraviolet light A photochemotherapy (PUVA).

In my opinion,a consultation of a dermatologist will be the best as treatment modalities for both are different.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.
