I am trying to figure out if I have one of the many forms of angioedema. But the response I saw to "angioedema/anaphylaxis - the same thing? is one of the better summaries I have seen. Myself I am going to the Doctor Monday and see if he ran a C1 inhibitor
experience. I don't have any abdominal pain so maybe I don't have Angioedema. I posted my experience on the dental site and got only one respose suggesting to see a neuroligist.
Hello,
Angioedema is the rapid swelling (edema) of the dermis, subcutaneous tissue, mucosa and submucosal tissues.Symptoms include swelling of any body part which appears suddenly and comes and goes.
Diagnosis is by clinical examination and complete blood tests, electrolytes and renal function tests.Traetment is by antihistaminics and steroids. The next time if there is any unexpected swelling of eyes, lips or face, then pls take an antihistaminic immediately and if the symptoms persist then pls consult ER so as to avoid life threatening anaphylaxis. Also try avoiding the allergen to which you might be allergic.
I hope that helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
Have you had any relief from your angioedema? My daughter, almost 18 has been having problems coping with this also. She has had as many as 3 episodes in a week. We have a doctor that is treating her, the treatment is a lot of medication with side effects and not a lot of answers. She is starting to get depressed. She also has a strange numbness or tingling in her fingers right before the facial swelling starts. Have you ever experienced that?
I too suffer from angioedema and I really struggle to cope i'm 29 and want to try for a baby but am being refused ivf because of this I feel like my life is on hold and my clocks are ticking I don't think anyone ever gets used to suffering with this!!
My personal experience in treating angioodema has tracked me down to a single drug cyproheptidine ie periactin, sedates, stimulates appetite, but works provided it is taken for a longer duration.
