xcalp bumps

My boyfriend has medium sized bumps in the nap of his head.They are very itchy and irrate him something horriable.what can they be and what can help them?

Hi,

This could be Tinea capitis or fungal infection of the scalp.  It presents with round black dots or round scaly lesions on the scalp that may be red or swollen. There is associated itching also. It is very contagious and may spread with by pets or direct contact with someone who has the condition, or if you touch contaminated items such as combs, hats, or clothing.  If it persists, have this evaluated by your doctor for proper management. Diagnosis is through Wood's lamp test or skin scrapings examined under the microscope.
