yeast infection skin

by cat57, Apr 22, 2008 02:07PM
I have been reading alot about skin infections, I started having very small white puss filled spots on my forehead tht spread to my T zone and down to my upper chest.  If I popped them they would seem worsen.  This began in late September of 07.  I went to a dermatologist that said it was Rosacea.( I had not had a spot or acne or pimple on my face in 28 years prior to this.)   I felt this just wasn't the case.
I drank red wine 5 out of 7 days a week a couple of glasses in the evening , and  1 cup of coffee (no sugar) in the morning , no sweets to speak of, and never soda.  Basically I eat healthy no junk food unless very special occasion.
I used the same "hair towel" after I would wash my hair for a number of years hang it to dry and use it again.  It began to have a fowl odor but I would wash it (with tide and bleach for colors) and use it again (even though it would still stink)  I am wondering if I contracted a yeast or mold that would not die from this towel, and then the habitual wine drinking would feed the yeast.
The reason I think this is that my husband contracted a yeast infection on his donor sites from being on anti-biotics.  The dermatologist gave him fluconazole tablet 150 mg to take daily for a month.  (Normally one clears up a vaginal yeast infection in a woman) and to apply econazole  nitrate cream twice daily.  I decided to take matters into my own hands and have take 1 tablet for a week and another fluconazole tablet for another week.  I threw the hair towel out when I started having this infection,   I have stopped the wine altogether and cut back on the coffee.  My face and chest cleared up almost instantly with just a few "spores" with the little white puss left.  Today my face is as clear as it was  8 months ago.  Not a spot in sight!
I am writing this to let anyone else suffering and fustrated with a skin infection.  Also, could the infection have been caused from the  hair towel. (mold? yeast?)

Hi,

This sounds like a fungal infection but an underlying allergic reaction seems to be likely also. Fungal infections are transmitted through direct contact. It was wise to discard the towel. In cases like this facial tissues may be used instead of cloth towels. Avoid the wine and other possible food triggers.

Do you have any known allergies?

Do you experience any flushing, warmth or redness over the face given certain triggers like heat , smoke and alcohol intake?
