yellow skin

yellow skin

I have had it for as long as i can remember but I want to know what I should do to take care of the problem. Both my hands and feet are quite yellow. When I do not move them they seem to have many spots, thats mostly on the hands, and when i make a fist and release its bright yellow. I don't know if this is jaundice or something else. Any suggestions on treatments?? I can post a picture later if necessary, I'm just kinda scared it cant be cured. any information will help, Thanks.

Hi,

Yellowing of the skin may be due to carotenemia or an underlying liver problem.

Yellowing of the skin caused by carotenemia usually involves areas of the body that usually sweats a lot. Unlike jaundice caused by liver problems, yellowing of the eyes is not noted in carotenemia.

Carotenemia is " a clinical condition characterized by yellow pigmentation of the skin and increased beta-carotene levels in the blood. In most cases, the condition follows prolonged and excessive consumption of carotene-rich foods, such as carrots, squash, and sweet potatoes."

Do you frequently include carotene rich food as mentioned above in your diet?

Any associated abdominal pain or change in the stool’s character?

Any yellowing of the eyes ?

Any history of excessive alcohol intake?
