AV Fistula

Hi, I hope someone here can help me. I had to get a catherization to see if there was blockage in heart. They went in the groin area to do this and there was a aneurysm and a av fistula had to be put in. I hear that this is usually done for a diabetic, and I am not diabetic. I had a triple bypass in 06, and  in july 09 cath was done.Does anyone know that this is a rare procedure for a non-diabetic. Did the doctor do the right thing? help.  Since then I've had to have this area repaired because it was not healed. HELP
