Adrenal exhaustion?

Adrenal exhaustion?

When on Prednizone for poison ivy my fasting blood sugar drops from 150 to 107.  Does this mean that there is adrenal exhaustion?  When I go off the medication the blood sugar goes back up.  This happened a year ago and is happening now.  The endocrinologists in my area are not taking new patients.

Without seeing posted results of a recent medical examination it is difficult to draw a conclusion as to why your glucose levels drop when on Prednisone [not spelling]. Usually Prednisone raises glucose levels, not lower. One thing to note is if you have been on Prednisone for more than one month, it is important that you do not stop it "cold turkey." This can cause an acute withdrawal reaction that can lead to a crisis situation - you can mess up your adrenal gland where adrenal exhaustion can lead to hypoglycemia. You'll need to travel outside of your area for an evaluation by an Endo. Mine is 50+ miles away one-way. Good luck

Thank you for your comments.  I am on day four of an 8 day diminishing amount of Prednisone.  This AM my blood sugar was 97 and my diet and exercise are the same as before.  Another good thing is that my arthritis has not hurt since I started the medication.  I'll try to get an appointment with an endocrinologist though it will mean a long drive.  Thanks again.
