Blood Sugar Test

by sridhar36, Jan 08, 2009 02:52AM
Hi recently my BP shooted to 140/90 during that course i was tested for CBC, Renal, Lipid and Sugar. All the counts of CBC, Renal and Lipid are absolutely normal. But my fasting blood sugar was 8.1 which is quite high. Before this test i used BP tablest for 4 days until the test is done.

Later from the next day i was tested for Random blood sugar several times for 2 days always the readings are normal the highest shown is 5.2. My doctor not even commented on this. Based on fasting blood sugar am i diabetic already? Please advice.

Thanks
Sridhar

Have you had a Hemoglobin A1C blood work done? This is a test which shows what your sugar has been for 2-3 month period.

As far as your BP - are you having alot of stress right now?

Dear pdr7686, Thank you for your kind reply. I have not undergone A1C test yet. I will go for it today itself. Do i need to do fasting for it or anytime i can get it done?

Yes my work is stress related, but i am trying to cope up with it by keeping myself calm. at present my BP is normal.

Does this A1C test will give conclusive result whether i am diabetic or not?

Thanks again

Just wondering if you went for the Hemoglobin A1c test?
no you did not have go fasting or at least I never have and they have been doing tests on me for years
As far as your BP it can go up anytime you are under stress of any kind, etc.-  I am glad your BP is normal now
I am not going to make a dx but it could be pre-diabetes----does Diabetes run in your family?

Under most cases 5.2 mmol/l is consider normal. Lab ranges may vary by each lab. Therefore, its always best to review your lab results and look at the ranges provided to see where you're at.

The Ac1 test is the best at determining how well a patient is managing their glucose. Best that you Google it and read about the test firsthand.
