Byetta pen

Byetta pen

Dear Dr. i had been on the byetta 5mg.  for1 mos. now. i have started the 10mg . p en a few days ago . previously i had been on metformin er. 2000 a day and 20 of glipizade  before byetta.  It was not contolling my glucose suffincently any more .  i was  then referred to a endo. and she put me on the byetta . i have lost about 7 lbs . i am happy about this .i am curious what causes the weight loss . is it because for about the first two weeks you feel so nauseaus , you can't really eat . :?will it continue to cause more loss ?  The 10 is not bringing down my numbers to where i would like, still averaging 145 ,155 on average .  I stay  within 45 carbs at mealtimes . i also  have that dawn effect with my fasting no. it hasn't changed that . do you think i should call my dr. office and ask to be put back on my oral meds with the byetta ?or does it take my time for the byetta to work ?  doesn't the byetta work as good as it ever will as soon as you take it ? Thank You for a reply .

I am not a doctor but rather a diabetic patient like yourself.  I was put on Byetta 5mg in March and have thankfully lost 30+ pounds since then.  I am curious though why your doc took you off all meds and you only use the Byetta now.  You might want to ask that first of all.  Also, the Byetta did not give me the other effect you are experiencing, but rather now I must force myself to eat.  I personally think that if you were still on at least some of your other meds + the Byetta your numbers would probably come down.  I know mine have.  As you said, I believe the Byetta works immediately as good as it ever will as soon as you take it.  The only thing that the Diabetes Nurse suggested to me was that if I was not eating enough, they might need to put me on the 10mg.  I believe you need to be back on some meds but write a list of questions for the doc before you phone and check this out immediately.  Again, I am not a doc but your situation does not sound good to me.

Please post what happens after you speak with the doc.  I am sure that I am not the only one who would like to know what happens!!

Good Luck - God Bless, Anita
