Diabetes, pain and bladder problems.

Hi, I am a 40 year old male who, and have been fit and healthy until a few years ago.  I started getting pains in my stomach and back (right side) and down the front of my right leg, no pressure when urinating, and feeling generally unwell (sick, dizzy).  I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last year and have been on metformin for about 2 years.  This has controlled the blood sugar levels but all the symptoms are still present.

My doctor has taken blood and urine tests, all of which have come back clear.  I have been to a urologist and had an ultrasound on my bladder and prostate and all is OK there.

I now also have a perminant rash on the glands of my penis, which my doctor tells me it thrush, but no creams clear it up.

I would be forever greatful if you could give me some advice to what is wrong with me.

Medication alone will not control and manage your glucose levels. What are they - fasting, preprandial and postprandial? How often do you test? Are you eating a diabetic diet, exercising daily and at normal body weight? Without this information we cannot tell whether diabetes is playing any role with your health issues.

You may get additional responses by posting on the Ask A Doctor forums Gastroenterology / Digestive Disorders and Neurology [leg pain].

Thanks WaveRider, I only test every 3 months at my doctors and have always had normal blood sugar levels since taking medication.  I am very active and fit and am underweight if anything.  I was always 12st 6 and am now around 10st.  I am always very careful what I eat and have been told that my diet is very good.

Thanks for the advice and will try that forum.
