Diabetes Diagnosis

I am of normal body weight, watch my diet carefully, and exercise three days a week at the gym. My A1C levels have been at 6.0 for the last two years and the highest they ever have been was three-four years ago (6.2). I notice that each time I visit my doctor he marks the receipt with a diagnosis: Diabetes. How can I have diabetes when my A1C is 6.0? My last serum Glucose level was 79. I'm concerned that my insurance company now thinks I have diabetes. Do I?  Thanks for the help.

I'm thinking perhaps your doctor added the diagnosis when you had the 6.2 reading. If 6.0 is the cutoff then it goes strictly by numbers and he would have made the diagnosis. However, if you are in fact diagnosed Diabetes he should be working with you on how to manage it. If not he should amend the records. I would definitely talk with him about it.
