Diabetes Plus

Don't know where else to post these questions so am assuming under diabetes since these symptoms may be related....

I am 45-F; have diabetes II; have hypothyroidism; have on-going depression; and am suceptible to allergies.  Medicines being used:  Metformin, Synthroid, Lisinopril, Effexor, Zocor, Singulair.  Was diagnosed with diabetes and hypothyroidism Oct 07.

Prior to diagnosis of diabetes/hypothyroidism I lost my sense of smell and taste.  Currently have been without smell and taste for 11 months.  ENT can't find any abnormalities; best guess is that is is damage to nerve caused by several bouts with sinusitis.

Question now is this:  is this loss also associated with diabetes?  AND - why am I now having phantosmia?  I sense the smell of something bad all the time - like a dirty catbox or spoiling meat.  it's aggravating; especially in light of the fact that I'm a chef.  HELP!

Try posting on the "Ask a Doctor Forums" - Diabetes - Adult Type II . You seem to have many choices but first ask Dr Ramsetty for her opinion.
