Glucose Tolerance Test

by Krsse, Dec 21, 2008 01:16AM
I'm a 53 year old woman who just had a 3 hour glucose tolerance test, here are my results:
Fasting - 106
1 hour - 210
2 hour - 230
3 hour - 167
I'm not sure if these results mean I'm a pre-diabetic or diabetic. Thank you for your help in advance.

Here are the ranges from my lab. Since you didn't provide us the amount of glucose they administered to you, labs results may vary. You should review your individual lab report along with consulting with you doctor for the specific ranges of each of your tests.

Fasting 8-10 hours:
1.) Less than 99 mg/dL or 5.2 mmol/L is considered normal (range is 70-99 mg/dl)
2.) From 100 mg/dl to 120 mg/dl is prediabetic
3.) Above 124 mg/dl is considered diabetes

OGTT: Based upon 100g of glucose
1-hour: Less than 180 mg/dL
2-hour: Less than 155 mg/dL
3-hour: Less than 140 mg/dL

Thank you so much for responding so quickly, since I have no idea what I'm talking about concerning diabetes, I really didn't know what information to give you but here are some answers to some of the questions you asked:

OGTT Based upon 75g of glucose
my results     normal range (from my lab)
Fasting          106               70-94
1 hour            210               70-179
2 hour            230               70-154
3 hour            167               65-139

I do have a doctor appointment coming up the beginning of January to discuss my results but until then, I've been doing my own research on the internet and trying to eat better and exercise 30 minutes a day.  Thank you so much for your help.

hi,

I think your doctor would diagnose diabetes based on the results you posted.

You are taking the right steps with diet and exercise, and do your best to get your weight to normal if it isn't already.  Yes, plenty of good info on the net.  With these steps you may be able to reverse your condition, even without meds.

Best regards & Merry Christmas
