I am according to the Doctors about 11 weeks pregnant. I currently have diabetes with this baby as my last child i never got gestationalGestational diabetes Gestational trophoblastic disease diabetes until I was about 4 months along. So my doctor got a current A1C and it was high! really high about 9.1 i think it was. But when i found out i was pregnant just barely along i went right back on my pills and diet. My sugars have been really good now but is it too late did i already hurt my baby and not know it?!?
The doctor called today and told me i am going for a level 2 ultrasound and to be honest i'm scared i never had anything like that done in my life. My son was big when he was born though he was 10lbs 5.6 ozs but in my eyes he was perfectPerfect choice. I am really scared something is wrong and no one is telling me. My sugars have been so good now though I just need to know that if i got my sugars under controlControl Control rx after i found out i was pregnant could i still of hurt the baby with such high sugars?
When your blood sugar is high, it's sort of like if you were feeding the baby lots of sugar.....babies like it. But the problem is that all the sugar makes them grow faster and that may cause them to be born too soon. And a big baby is not necessarily a mature baby. They may be large in size but the lungs may not be fully developed.
Besides the risk of premature labor, there is also the risk of needing a C section if the baby is too large.
Also, when the baby gets lots of sugar from you, their pancreas starts making insulin faster to be able to keep up with all the sugar...and when the baby is delivered, the source of sugar is suddenly gone but their pancreas is still making lots of insulin and that can cause their blood sugar to go down too low.
Try to relax, stress can make your blood sugar go up.
