How much is a "unit"

Taking novolin on sliding scale - scale shows at level_X   take  N_units - how is that measured in a hypodermic?
Using "1/2 cc" hypo with markings 5 - 50 . Does marking 5 = 5 UNITS? If so, what liquid volume measure equals one unit.

It sounds like your insulin syringe has a capacity of 50 units. The barrel of the syringe usually has graduated markings indicating the volume of liquid in units. One - [dash] equals one unit up to the first larger — [dash] with the number 5. This designates 5 units, and so on. If this doesn't answer your question, take your syringe to your nearest pharmacy and ask the pharmacist to explain the markings to you.
