When I had my CBC done, my fastingFasting glucose tolerance test Glucose test - blood blood sugar was 95, I still didn't feel that everything was right with my blood sugar so I bought a glucoseFasting glucose tolerance test Glucose test Glucose test - blood Glucose tolerance test Oral glucose tolerance test monitor to do random blood sugar tests. In the morning my BS is never lower than approximately 85. About an hour after (7:30am) eating my bs ranges up to 139 and after two hours it is back into the high 80's to low 90's. Usually by 9am I am starving so i Have a yogurt, which contains 26g of sugar, shortly after my bs will go up to either the 120's or 130's, but then it begins to drop rather quickly and within a half an hour it is in the low 70's but usually gets into the upper 60's, like 66 or 68. Now this morning instead of eating or drinking some gatorade or something I waited, after about a half an hour it went back up into the mid 70's, is this normalNormal saline flush or is this reactional hypoglycemia? Thanks for all your help
Update: this morning I had pancakes for breakfast within a half hour my bs was 141, if someone can give me some advice I'd really appreciate it, I really have myself worked up and scared about the swing in readings
Update: two hours after the pancakes my bs was down to 80, but a little bit before two hours it was in the 70's. About an hour ago I had a jell-o pudding snack cuz i was starving. blood sugar went up to 120, now it is back down around 79 or 80 after only a half an hour, are these swings normal? The readings are really kind of freaking me out and hoping someone with diabetes or that knows someone with diabetes could help me out and reassure me if this is normal.
First off, calm down. You're not doing yourself any good by working yourself into a frenzy. Second, your two hour swings are not that unusual considering foods consumed will raise your glucose during the first 2-3 hours after eating. But your half hour swings are very unusual and mimic hypoglycemia.
Ask your doctor for an OGTT test [oral glucose tolerance test]. This is used in cases where the disease is suspected, despite a normal fasting blood glucose.
Be sure to tell your doctor about any medications/vitamins/supplements you are taking. And, try to stay calm before and during the test. Do not exercise vigorously the day before or prior to the test. This may affect your test results.
