Metformin ER - sorry so explicit

Metformin ER - sorry so explicit

Ok I have been on metformin hcl ER 500 mg once at night.  It has been almost two weeks since I started the medication.....for the past couple of days I noticed something in my bowel movement.....its in my morning stool it looks kinda orangish an kinda like a small carrot that has white stuff in the middle.  I know this is totally disgusting but I need some advice!  Could it be the metformin being released in my stool??  If so, does that mean I'm not getting my medication like I should??  My sugar levels have been alright, sometimes up to 140 after I eat a meal that I shouldn't but other than that ok.   What should I do???!!!  I haven't noticed any other aide effects but occasional loose bowel movements.

Hi,

the ER metformin medication is formulated in a kind of matrix to be slowly released.  It would be my guess that you are seeing what's left of that matrix.

Am sure it doesn't mean that you are not absorbing the med.

Please continue to work on your diet and lifestyle to keep your blood sugars under control

Best wishes

Hi! Im new here and saw your comment...no need to worry about graphics
tthe more we can describe sometimes makes it easier for others to recognize the problem. My Mother was on metformin and it gave her diahrrea...the last time i took it...my lower intestines and stomach were in an uproar.makes you wonder about some of the meds!
